We get regular requests for large, 3 to 8-foot round canvases but high manufacturing and shipping costs have kept them out of reach for many artists. By redesigning the way we make and ship our round strainers (and other shaped strainer and stretcher frames), we can now offer them at a more approachable cost!

These round canvas strainers are made in several sections from two or three layers of ¾" plywood: a Baltic birch top with at least ¼" fall to ensure the canvas only contacts the outer edge, and a fir base (and middle, for the 84" and 96") that allows for easy stapling of the canvas. The segments are precision-drilled, allowing for quick and easy alignment and assembly using the provided dowels and screws. The round shape, combined with the strength of the materials used, is structurally very stable under tension even without braces. This helps keep the weight of the strainer frame down and ensures no contact between the canvas and frame when painting, preventing "ghosting". The inside edge of the strainer frame is beveled for mounting using a matching gravity bar supplied with every frame.

Available now in stock sizes of 30", 36", 48", 60", 72", 84", and 96", these large round canvas strainers come bundled in a surprisingly small package (a 5-ft/60" round strainer frame packs down to a tiny 12"x9"x32"!) Detailed assembly instructions will be included with your order or can be found here. We recommend stretching with raw canvas as it is much more flexible than pre-primed and can be pulled flat around the edges to prevent unsightly pleating.
